Metadata Software Tools
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/metadata/software-tools/

A suite of software tools for handling metadata in various formats. Metadata is data about data. Increasingly the term refers to any data used to aid the identification, description and location of networked electronic resources. The software tools were developed by the UKOLN metadata group with effort from a number of projects related to resource description; DESIRE, BIBLINK, ROADS and Newsagent.

The tools provide a variety of functions, including the creation, maintenance and conversion of metadata formats. The tools include:

  • a script to summarise HTML pages into SOIF format
  • a tool for creating Dublin Core metadata
  • a tool to harvest metadata into ROADS templates
The tools will be of interest to people involved in the creation of electronic resources, those involved with the creation of third party metadata (information gateways and catalogues) and software developers. They are freely available on the site for downloading.
