Traditional Internet search services like AltaVistaTM and Yahoo!®
have been invaluable in helping sift through the ever-growing mass of
online information - but they're too indiscriminate for many professional
information users.
What's needed is a way of selecting, categorising, rating
and cataloguing Internet information resources so users have access
to an independent description and don't just have to rely on
finding key words in the content.
Of course, it wouldn't help much if every Internet site went about this
in its own way. Fortunately, there is now widespread international agreement on a
Resource Description Framework (RDF) which everyone can use.
