Subject Gateways | Workshops

Building national and large-scale Internet Information Gateways:
a workshop for the National Libraries of Europe

Target Audience and Aims of the Workshop

Who is the Workshop aimed at?

We hope that each of the National Libraries in Europe will be able to send a representative to the workshop.

The workshop is aimed at strategic managers from the National libraries of Europe, interested in learning more about developing large-scale subject-based Internet information gateways.

Places on the workshop are strictly limited and priority will be given to representatives elected by members of The Conference of European National Librarians (CENL)

Attendance at the workshop is free of charge (not including travel and accommodation) but numbers are strictly limited and so early registration is essential.

What are the aims of the workshop?

The workshop aims to encourage collaboration between the National Libraries of Europe in building national and large-scale Internet Information gateways.

The workshop will focus on strategic issues and will cover the following:

  1. The role of National Libraries in Internet resource discovery
  2. The international perspective: current practice in different countries and the potential for collaboration
  3. The investments and resources required to build and operate a large-scale Internet information gateway
  4. The practical steps required to build and maintain a gateway

There will be speakers from a number of National initiatives in this area and we hope to learn about the initiatives of colleagues in other libraries.
