Metadata format

Considerations when choosing a metadata format:

• • which minimum set of fields do you need to enable the modes of access/search functionality you want to provide?
  • do you want to enable interoperability with other services in the future? Possibilities for conversion.
  • are there any conventions in your subject community?
  • does the software you have chosen for your service impose restrictrions on the format you may use?
  • who is going to do the cataloguing?
