Research: Deliverables: D5.1 Training and Dissemination Activities: Indexing Workshop 2000Speakers Information Peter Valkenburg (NL) Peter Valkenburg is Innovation Manager at the national research networking organisation of the Netherlands, SURFnet. He is involved in the DESIRE project and was a project development officer for TERENA projects and its task force on web indexing. He currently works on metadata indexing for multimedia and large scale directory deployment in the context of the GigaPort project.
Phil Cross (UK) Phil Cross is a Technical Research Officer at the Institute for Learning and Research Technology, University of Bristol, UK. He works on the DESIRE, Renardus, and medCERTAIN projects as well as with the Social Science Information Gateway (SOSIG) and is currently looking at the use of RDF for metadata storage.
Sean Slattery (USA) Sean is a graduate student in the Text Learning Group at Carnegie Mellon University. He works on the Web->KB project, extracting knowledge bases from Web sources, but is currently concentrating on finishing his thesis - "Machine Learning on Hypertext"
Traugott Koch (SE) Traugott is a Senior Librarian and Digital Library Scientist at Lund University Library, Development Department NetLab. He works on the DESIRE project and has worked with EELS, the Electronic Engineering Library of Sweden and with OCLC on Information retrieval projects.
Stuart Weibel (USA) Stuart Weibel is the Director of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative. He is a Senior Research Scientist in the OCLC Office of Research in Dublin, Ohio and has been involved in Web standards and WWW conference development activities since 1994.
Rachel Heery (UK) Rachel Heery is Co-ordinator of the Research Group at the UK Office for Library and Information Networking, University of Bath, UK She works on the DESIRE, ROADS and BIBLINK projects and works on the development of Dublin Core.
Sigfrid Lundberg (SE) Sigfrid is a Scientist at Lund University Library, working on various development projects concerning Internet search and information retrieval, design of our harvesting robot and archiving of WWW documents. He works on the DESIRE project and has worked with EELS, the Electronic Engineering Library of Sweden.
Roland Hedberg (NO) Roland is Chief Scientific Officer at Catalogix. He mainly works with developing large scale directory services and are actively involved in LDAP standardization work within the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).
Peter Gietz (DE) Studied humanities (Science of Religions and Indology) but worked in the field of IT since 1985, first as programmer, then as applications engineer in the X.500 related DFN Project AMBIX at the University of Tuebingen, Germany. Then as the X.500 NameFLOW coordinator at DANTE, Cambridge. Currently he is working in the Project DFN Directory Services, a X.500/LDAP competence center. He was involved in design and implementation of the DESIRE II directory indexing working package.
Michael Lew (NL) Michael Lew is the Co-Director of the Multimedia Lab at the Computer Science Dept. of Leiden University He works on visual websearching projects, interactive video, and video over IP.
Marc Wilhelm Küster (DE) Marc Küster is a research assistant at the Department of Literary and Documentary Data Processing at the University of Tübingen's computing centre. He is also project manager and editor of the European project "Specifically European Requirements in the field of Browsing and Matching" and been prominently involved in various other European projects. Apart from these activities he works on TUSTEP, e. g. in its drive towards becoming a flexible web-based database engine.
Yuri Demchenko (NL) Yuri Demchenko is a project Development Officer at TERENA. His responsibility is in supervising TERENA projects in application area and modern middleware, REIS (Research and Education Indexing Service for Europe) and TAP (TERENA Academic Portal) Initiatives are among them.
